Lot 1 of the Extension A of the Line 1 of Algiers Subway, located in the heart and historical center of Algiers, is currently under construction. The works are almost fully developed underground, comprising the execution of a tunnel with a length of around 1450 m, two underground stations and their respective accesses to the surface and three ventilation shafts. The Ali Boumendjel Station is located in a densely urbanized area to which several important arteries of the city converge. The underground excavation corresponds to the materialization of a large 155m long gallery, with a maximum span of 20.5 m, corresponding to a cross section of 260 m2. This paper presents the design solutions and some particular aspects of the station, focusing on the strong interdependence between the design and the construction sequence and in the description of an unusual solution for its attack.
