Lot 1 of the Extension A of the Line 1 of Algiers Subway, located in the heart and historical center of Algiers, is currently under construction. The works are almost fully developed underground, comprising the execution of a tunnel with a length of around 1450 m, two underground stations and their respective accesses to the surface and three ventilation shafts. The Place des Martyrs Station is located at a square with the same name, in the central area of the city, at the base of the Kasbah and near Algiers’ harbour. It concerns a gallery with unusual large dimensions, with a maximum span of 26 m and a height of 19 m, corresponding to an excavation cross section of around 397 m2, and a length of 144 m. This paper will present the design solutions and some of its particular aspects, focusing on the interdependence of the design with the general construction sequence constraints. This construction sequence will be presented and highlighted with images of the undergoing works.
