This scheme is to supply water to Eastern Algarve, comprising the municipalities of Vila Real de Santo António, Castro Marim, Tavira, Olhão, Faro, S. Brás de Alportel and Loulé (east), to serve an estimated resident and floating population of about 800,000 in habitants and allow the irrigation, in a 1st Phase, of 8,600 ha.

This project, in addition to the Odeleite and Beliche Dams, also includes the Tavira WTP and the following main infrastructures:

  • Water Intake in Odeleite (Q = 0.8 m3/s);
  • Odeleite-Beliche Tunnel (Ø = 3.30 m, L = 3 km, Q = 25 m3/s);
  • Water Intake in Beliche (Q = 25 m3/s);
  • Beliche Tunnel – Pumping Station 1 (L = 0.4 km, Ø = 3.30 m);
  • 2 Surge Shafts (Ø = 11 m, h = 30 and 40 m);
  • Pumping Station 1 (Q = 10,4 m3/s; h = 80 m; P = 11 MW);
  • Pumping Station 2 (Q = 8.4 m3/s, h = 13 m, P = 1,5 MW);
  • Trunk Main (Ø = 2 500 mm, L = 28 km);
  • Santo Estêvão Reservoir (V = 150 000 m3);
  • Pumping Station 3 (Q = 2.2 m3/s, H = 21 m, P = 600 kW);
  • Pressure Irrigation Network: 281 km of pipes;
  • Drainage network: 107 km of channels;
