Pisão Dam

The dam’s total crest is of about 454 m long and 8 m wide. The crest, which is 17 m above the dam foundations, is at level 157,50, being 2.50 m above the FSL (full storage level) and 1.50 m above the maximum peak flood. The dam is a zoned earth fill dam type with a central core and anchor blocks, being the total landfill volume of about 16 700 m3. The flood spillway comprises a frontal spillway sill with 2 modules, being one dimensioned for a flood peek discharge of 120 m3/s. The energy dissipation basin is a hydraulic jump stilling basin. The downstream area of the basin is protected by gabions. The water intake tower has 2 fixed angle sluice gates. The created storage reservoir will occupy an extension of about 2.02 Km2, to which correspond a total value of 8,23 x 106 m3. The hydroelectric development is located upstream being the annual average turbinated volume of 36,74 hm3. The Monte do Bolor Weir purpose is to block the entrance of fishes into the water intake and to supply, from the weir’s water intake, the ecological flow, downstream of the Pisão’s dam reservoir. Construction of the road network and installation of the remote management, and warning systems.

Hydro-electrical Development Plan:

• Monte do Bolor Dam with a development of 37 m;

• Remote management and warning and alarm system;

• Road network with a total length of about 3 km.
