Magra Water Supply System

Design for the water supply system, from the Magra Dem, which will supply the delivery points of Atalaia, Boavista, Baleizão, Salvada, Quintos and Cabeça Gorda, in the municipality of Beja.

-     WTP (Preliminary design, including the civil construction works, equipment, electrical installations, instrumentation and tele-management)

·     designed for the flow of 5 000 m3/day and a capacity to serve 30 000 inhabitants;

·     the liquid phase has the following treatment operations: adjusting the calco-carbonic balance by adding CO2 and milk of lime; ozone preoxidation; fast mixing with the addition of milk of lime, powdered activated carbon and coagulant (aluminium chloride, PAX 18); sedimentation in a sludge-blanket clarifier, pulsing, for 100% of the flow rate and flotation with capacity for 100% of the flow rate, preceded by flocculation; Filtration thorough rapid sand filters; intermediate ozonation; filtration through filters with granular activated carbon; final pH adjustment with lime water; and final disinfection with chlorine gas;

·     the solid phase treatment includes the following bodies and equipment: equalization tank, water recovery tank, thickener, sludge conditioning and dewatering system;

·     treated water tank, made of reinforced concrete and with a capacity of 2,400 m3;

-    Pumping stations (located in a dedicated building in the premises of Magra WTP):

·     Atalaia Pumping Station, which feeds the supply subsystem from the Atalaia Break pressure tank (BPT), including the installation of three parallel groups for a unit flow of 34,1 L/s, for a total flow 68,3 L/s, and a dynamic head of 90,0 mH2O;

·     Baleizão Pumping Station, which feeds the supply subsystem that serves Baleizão reservoir, including the installation of three parallel groups for a unit flow of 5,0 L/s, for a total flow of 10,0 L/s, and a dynamic head of 59,0 mH2O;

·     Salvada Pumping Station, which feeds the supply subsystem from the Salvada Reservoir, conveying water by gravity to Cabeça Gorda and Quintos reservoirs, including the installation of two parallel groups for a flow of 3,4 L/s, and a dynamic head of 77,0 mH2O;

-    Conduit pipes over a total extension of 38,080 m distributed for:

·     C I: Water conveyance to Magra WTP - BPT - Atalaia reservoir, with a diameter of 350 mm, ductile iron, with a length of 10 760 metres, including the Atalaia break pressure tank and a section carried out by using pipe jacking method, and a microtunneling subsystem type;

·     C2: Water supply to the Magra WTP - Salvada reservoir, with a diameter of 160 mm, HDPE, and a length of 4 500 metres;

·     C3: Water supply from the Salvada reservoir to the Cabeça gorda reservoir, with a diameter of 160 mm, HDPE, and a length of 4 900 metres;

·     C4: Water supply from the Salvada by-pass to Quintos reservoir, with a diameter of 75 mm, HDPE, and a length of 5 480 metres;

·     C5: Water supply from the WTP to Baleizão reservoir, with a diameter of 110 mm, HDPE, and a length of 12 440 metres, including a section carried out by using pipe jacking method, and a microtunneling subsystem type;

-    Reservoirs:

·     Atalaia Brake pressure tank, including civil construction works, equipment and electrical installations, instrumentation and tele-management;

·     Salvada reservoir, in reinforced concrete and with a capacity of 450 m3, including civil construction works, equipment and electrical installations, instrumentation and tele-management.

·     Interconnexion to the Baleizão, Cabeça Gorda, Quintos and Atalaia reservoirs, including civil construction works, equipment  and electrical installations, instrumentation and tele-management.
