Study of twenty-one sites previously selected by the Government of Cape Verde as being potentially suitable for the construction of surface water retention dams and for the construction of the corresponding agricultural irrigation systems.
The study has three phases: Phase 1 - Preliminary Design, Phase 2 - Feasibility Studies and Phase 3 - Projects for Tenders and its Call for Tenders Processes.
At the end of the Preliminary Design, the best locations for the Feasibility Studies were selected, and then the five best were selected to proceed to the Design Phase for the Call for Tenders process, which were:
The dams are made of masonry, the spillways are of a free Creager type threshold, followed by a discharge channel and ending in a ski jump and the water intakes are holes located in the upstream face of each dam, followed by steel ducts embedded in the dam body and ending at a control valve.
The irrigation networks are made of HDPE piping, with some pumping stations and regulating reservoirs.
