This project aimed at implementing a system of electrical energy generation from the biogas produced by the decomposition of the organic fraction of urban solid residues, deposited in the West Landfill.
The drainage of the gases produced in the landfill is made by means of vertical holes in the residues mass that are a part of the biogas drainage and combustion network. This system is also formed by a central collector and a gasburner (750 m3/h), to which is connected the network for drainage and burning.
The control valves to monitor the flow from each well and the respective sampling points are located near the central collector.
The biogas is extracted by aspiration using the ventilator dimensioned to guarantee the flow and the pressure required for the functioning of the motor-generator group (1063 kWele ). The electrical energy produced is increased to 30 kV, by a 0,4/30 kV transformer of 1250 kV, and injected in EDP distribution network, according to the statutes of producer with special regime.
