Environmental Recovery of Lousal Mining Area

Technical monitoring of Stage 2 of Lousal Mining Area Environmental Recovery, as well as all activities related to it, namely those related to quality and financial management.

This work included:

• Sanitation and removal of contaminated soils;
• Sanitation and waterproofing of an old heap, limiting the production of acid waters to subsurface seepages, conducted by interception systems and moved to a tank specially constructed for their collection and control;
• Cleaning and rehabilitation of 17 basins dedicated to the neutralization of effluents, precipitation and sedimentation of sludge and to the rectification treatment with planted macrophytes;
• Construction of two reservoirs that constitute a water reserve that will ensure the balance of the natural system of cascades passive treatment of the downstream basins;
• Slopes Reshaping at Corona stream and construction of a retaining wall;
• Reduction of the potential infiltration of acidic water downstream of Lagoa Vermelha (red lagoon) through waterproofing with clay and waterproofing screen, reorienting the drainage direction to a passive acid waters' treatment ditch.
