The Project includes the design and the construction of 3 km of water mains (DN180 to DN250), 165 km of primary and secundary water supply system (DN 63 to DN200) and 15.000 home connections, including opening and closing of ditches, piping and fittings, measuring and flow control chambers, pressure reducing valve chambers, tests and commissioning. The city of Luena is supplied by two systems: the Lumege one, with a capacity of 600 m3/h, and the one of Luena, with a capacity of 200m3/h. The water mains to reinforce the distribution networks and the interconnection between these two systems are included in the project.
The services provided include the review of the detailed design and the monitoring of the construction works of the Luena water supply system. The review of the detailed design consists of the critical analysis of several project elements, focusing on the engineering, hydraulic modelling and design, specification of the water supply and distribution infrastructures, health and safety plan, environmental and social management plan, waste management plan, construction site plan and also the public consultation plan.
This project, financed by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, is particularly complex due to its location in unplanned and densely populated suburban areas.
