In 1995 Borealis started an exhaustive revamping programme of the utilities, namely in steam production, electrical power generation and process control and instrumentation.
The main aspects covered by this project are the installation of a 30 MW new turbo generator for the joint production of steam and electricity, the improvement of the high voltage electrical distribution network including new protection systems, remote control and signalisation and, the replacement of the existing instrumentation in the process areas by new DCS type systems.
