The study was aimed at the protection of the primary uses and resources and natural values (water, flora, fauna, soil, landscape), setting the uses and management system compatible with sustainable use of the territory, providing the conditions essentials for the use of water resources for the public supply.
The reservoir of Ranhados dam has a storage capacity of 2.6 hm3, to a flooded area of 18 ha.
This reservoir was created by a dam built in Torto river, dominating a river basin with 43,7 km2 . It is the source of a water system that will serve 16 200 inhabitants.
Assignment
The purpose of the Integrated Study for Planning and Management of the Ranhados Reservoir was to define a model for the occupation and territorial management of the water plan of the Ranhados reservoir, including an area of 500 m beside the normal retention system ( NPA).
The studies included a detailed characterization of the area covered by the plan, the characterization of the hydrographic basin in terms of water resources and sources of pollution, and the socio-economic characterization of the community where the reservoir is located.
