The tota larea of the Douro River basin is 97 600 km2, of which 18 600 km2 (19%) are in Portuguese territory.
The Plan was conducted with the aim of the definition of a tool for managementof water resources for the conservation and sustainable use in a water resource, focusing on the following themes: (1) Hydrology, (2) Register ofHydraulic and Sanitation Infrastructure, (3) Environment, (4) Socioeconomics,(5) Regulatory and Institutional System, (6) Economic Analysis, Financial andTax.
These themes were developed in several stages, which are: (1) Analysis and Diagnosis of the Reference Situation, (2) Definition of objectives, (3) Strategies, Measures and Actions, (4) Program of Implementation Plan and Actions complementary
