With an intervention area corresponding to the maritime space of Mozambique (562,000 km²), the Plan is the main strategic instrument for maritime spatial planning, which defines and establishes the perspectives and general guidelines that will guide the use of marine resources and coastal ecosystems, respecting the principles of integrated management and sustainable development, with the contributions of specialists in the various areas involved, namely, Maritime Economy, Oceanography, Climate Change, Fisheries, Sea Sciences, Ports and Maritime Transport, Aquaculture and Biodiversity, Coastal Erosion, Maritime Pollution, Environment, Energy, Tourism and Maritime Resources.
This plan has the overall objectives to establish maritime spatial planning, respecting the principles of integrated management and sustainable development, to promote the economic exploitation of the sea, marine resources and ecosystems in a sustainable, rational and efficient from the perspective of ensuring compatibility and sustainability of the various uses and activities developed in the maritime space, taking into account the inter and intra-generational responsibility in using that space and aiming at job creation.
Simultaneously, it intends to ensure the preservation, protection and recovery of natural values, biodiversity and marine and coastal ecosystems and the maintenance of the good environmental status of the maritime area, as well as the prevention of risks and the minimization of the effects of natural disasters, climate change or human action, ensuring the legal certainty and transparency of procedures for the award of titles for the use of maritime space and to allow the exercise of information and participation rights and, finally, ensure the quality of the information released on the Mozambican maritime space.
