The construction of the new Macao-Taipa Bridge, also known as Friendship Bridge, was part of Macao development strategy. With the construction of Ka-Ho Port, Macao International Airport and a new residential area in Taipa Island, it become necessary a new bridge which assured a fast and fluid flowing of the traffic created by these infrastructures.

The bridge main characteristics are:

  • Bridge with a total length of 3.900 m, linking on both sides to a new road system: on Macao side, by a viaduct with 800 m, on Taipa side access to the Airport and Ka-Ho Port through a split intersection;
  • Deck with 15 m width, with 4 traffic lanes, a median and shoulders of 1,5 m;
  • The crossing of the 2 existent navigation channels is made of about 30 m above medium sea level by cable stayed decks, a double bridge on Macao side and a simple bridge on Taipa side;
  • The bridges’ towers have a maximum height of 56 m above medium sea level, located 112,5 m apart from each other, allowing channels 70 m wide.
