Rehabilitation of Calueque's Irrigation Perimeter

Calueque region has great agroecological potential for the development of irrigated agriculture, with a widespread expansion of this activity currently occurring along Calueque's channel.

Although Cunene River has an important water source, the hydraulic system built is not prepared to meet the demands of farmers in the region, simultaneously with the flow needs on the other side of the border.

Studies and designs were prepared, within the scope of a design-construction invitation to tender, for two solutions that contemplate the establishment of an irrigation perimeter, originating in Calueque channel, to be implemented in two phases, each with 2,000 ha, including:

• Rehabilitation of Calueque's Pumping Station and Feeder Pipe;
• Rehabilitation of Calueque Channel (12 km);
• Parcelling;
• Collective System of Pressure Irrigation;
• Regularization Reservoir with 200 dam³;
• Drainage Network;
• Road Network and
• Logistics Center and Residential Area.
