The Regional Center of Coimbra was sent to build by the Portuguese Institute of the Blood in the parish of São Martinho do Bispo, municipality of Coimbra. The building is composed by 2 floors plus basement and has a gross building area of approximately 3350 m2.
The 0 Floor (Basement) is the technical area where are located the transformers, emergency generators, waste water treatment and 1 cooling chamber 40 °C for storage of blood components. On the 1st flooris located the care of donors and the production and quality control laboratories. On the 2nd floor are located the laboratories of clinical analyses, the offices of the Directorate and administrative services. On the cover are installed HVAC equipment and solar panels for heating of sanitary water.
The building has the particularity of being completely zinc coated.
